Referee Training

Training is a key element of the TWOA-GC officiating experience. A few of the basic training requirements include attending one of our two local officiating clinics and the successful completion of the NFHS Wrestling Rules Examination (Part I).
In addition, new officials will be required to attend a full day "on-the-mat" training event at a local high school. This event will be supplemented with two "new officials only" clinics immediately before and after this "on-the-mat" training event.
Training continues at our local association meetings. These meetings are held virtually using Zoom Video Technology. These meetings are generally held every three weeks during the wrestling season. The meetings start at 6:30pm and end at around 8:00pm. Regular meeting attendance is expected of all members.
The dates for all of these meetings, clinics, and events can be found on our Meetings page.
Association Members

Our association is comprised of a diverse group of about 60 dedicated referees. Experience varies from a few months to over 25 years. The level of competency varies from JV qualified to college certified. We are always looking for new referees at all skill levels. A few related links:

Registration & Dues

Registration and dues are made through the TWOA website. Registration is required to receive your NFHS books, insurance, online testing and to officiate any Texas wrestling event.
- To begin the registration process click HERE.
- When completed, you will receive an email confirming your registration and dues payment.
Scheduling Process

The scheduling process occurs twice a season ... in late October (for the first half of the season) and then again in early December (for the second half of the season). The process involves an online bidding system that allows you to select and rank your preferred events. After the bidding process is complete, most officials will be assigned one weekday event and one Saturday event per week. In any case, you will be assigned to events that best match your officiating capability. All wrestling events and referee assignments can be found on the Schedules page.
NFHS Rule & Case Books

The NFHS Rule & Case books are the official rules source for high school wrestling in Texas. These books are provided as part of your membership dues. The only exception to these rules would be those listed in the UIL Wrestling Manual. The middle school and youth programs also follow these rules with a few appropriate exceptions (weight classes, etc).
Executive Board

The TWOA-GC Executive Board consists of a President, Vice-President (rules commissioner), Director, Secretary/Treasurer and Past President. The respective duties and responsibilities of each office are contained in the TWOA-GC Bylaws. The Executive Board members for this season are:
- President - Daniel Rawson
- Vice President - Jerrod Ousley
- Director - Mark Lyons
- Scheduler - Paul Hamilton
- At Large - John Donaleski
- Past President - Jeron Quincy
Referee Compensation

The TWOA-GC fee schedule for high school events and middle school events can be found on page 2 of the Agreement For Officiating Services. These fees are based upon the officiating fees set by the University Interscholastic League (UIL). Please note that all officiating fees are paid directly to the respective referee. Consequently, you will be responsible for all related income taxes. Click HERE to download an IRS W-9 form.
